PSA · 1.4 HDi / 1.4 TDCi Diesel I4
2001–2015
"The small 1.4 common-rail diesel PSA built with Ford (2001-2015): 1.4 HDi in the Peugeot 107/206/207/208/2008 and Citroen C1/C2/C3, 1.4 TDCi in the Ford Fiesta and Fusion, 1.4 CD in the Mazda 2. Mostly 8-valve 54-68 hp with a simple fixed-geometry turbo and no dual-mass flywheel in most versions, so it is cheap to run and to repair. Weak spots are leaking injector seals and pipes (common before 2012), turbo failures when oil changes are skipped, DPF and EGR clogging in town use, and a timing belt whose tensioner must be changed with it. Lifespans of 300,000 km are reported."

Known Issues 6
Particulate filter (DPF) clogging
▸DPF or engine warning light, loss of power, frequent regeneration attempts
Euro 5 cars (1.4 HDi 68 FAP, DV4C) built up to July 2013 had a known DPF blocking risk, fixed by a regeneration procedure (L'argus). Mostly a problem for cars used only on short trips. Repair cost not sourced.
No Greek-specific data found.
Timing belt and tensioner failure
▸Rubbing or whirring noise from the belt cover; no proof of the last belt and tensioner change
The camshaft is belt-driven and the engine is an interference design: if the belt breaks, the valves bend. An Irish workshop found a Fiesta 1.4 TDCi belt slipping off its tensioner and wearing through the cover about 50,000 miles after a belt change that probably reused the old tensioner. Always change the tensioner with the belt.
No Greek-specific data found.
Turbocharger failure
▸Whistling, blue or black smoke, loss of boost and limp mode
The fixed-geometry turbo has a modest life and fails mainly from oil starvation: sludged oil feed lines and late oil changes. Auto Swiat quoted a new turbo at about 1,520 zloty and repairs from 800 zloty in 2011 (about 200-380 EUR, converted). fiches-auto owners report it more often on the 68-70 hp versions than on the 54 hp.
No Greek-specific data found.
Injector seal and pipe leaks, injector failure
▸Diesel smell in the cabin, black carbon deposits around the injectors, hard starting
Leaking injector seals and pipes are the most reported fault. L'argus lists seal leaks on cars built up to April 2004, rigid fuel-pipe leaks up to January 2008 and loose injector screws and clamps (diesel smell) up to June 2012. fiches-auto owners report injector and seal trouble as common on the 207 generation and rare from the 208. A set of new injectors cost about 2,600 zloty in Poland in 2011 (about 650 EUR, converted).
No Greek-specific data found.
Clutch slip (Euro 5 cars, 2010-2013)
▸Engine revs rise without the car speeding up, especially in higher gears
L'argus lists clutch slip on 1.4 HDi 68 Euro 5 cars built December 2010 to November 2013, with manufacturer coverage of 36 months or 60,000 km. fiches-auto owners also report the clutch often. Cost not sourced.
No Greek-specific data found.
EGR valve clogging
▸Loss of power, engine warning light, rough running
The EGR valve or its vacuum solenoid clogs with soot, mostly in town use. Auto Swiat quoted about 600 zloty in 2011 (about 150 EUR, converted). Later electric valves are more durable.
No Greek-specific data found.
