Side-by-side reliability comparison

Character
H4M E-Tech (HR16 + 2 electric motors)
"Renault's 1.6 E-Tech hybrid: the naturally aspirated Nissan-designed 1.6 four-cylinder (H4M/HR16) with two electric motors and a clutchless multimode dog-clutch gearbox, in the Clio V, Captur II, Arkana, Megane, Symbioz, Dacia Jogger and Duster and Mitsubishi ASX, as full hybrid (140-145 hp) or plug-in (158-160 hp). The petrol engine itself has a good record. The weak point is the hybrid gearbox: a seal on the e-motor shaft can leak oil, and Renault has run campaigns on about 157,000 cars built 2019-2024, up to a new gearbox. Ask for proof that all campaigns were done."
D4F
"Renault 1.2 petrol for small cars (Twingo, Clio, Kangoo, Modus, Dacia Logan/Sandero): the 8V D7F from 1996, the 16V D4F from 2000. Simple and long-lived. It has a timing belt, not a chain - change it on time because a broken belt bends the valves. Throttle-body fouling causes idle problems; D4F engines built Sep-Nov 2010 had a valve-cotter recall."
