"The new three-cylinder 1.2 turbo petrol of the Renault Austral, Espace, Rafale, Clio VI and Captur and the Dacia Duster III (2022 on): 48V mild hybrid (130 hp), LPG Eco-G, and the E-Tech full hybrid and plug-in hybrid (200-300 hp system power). Not related to the old four-cylinder 1.2 TCe. The full-hybrid Austral and Espace built 2022-2024 have had a string of campaigns: a crankcase breather hose that lets fuel dilute the oil (risk of engine seizure), spark plugs replaced for misfires, and cooling-system parts. Mild-hybrid versions have no known engine faults so far. Check that every Renault campaign has been done."

Crankcase breather hose failure - fuel in the oil, risk of engine seizure (full hybrid)

Detection

Fuel smell in the cabin, oil level rising on the dipstick, oil-level warning, rising oil consumption

Details

Renault opened technical campaign 0EWA in December 2025 for about 32,000 Austral and Espace 6 with the 1.2 E-Tech full hybrid built 6 June 2022 to 20 December 2024: the crankcase oil-vapour hose can crack or leak and, if warnings are ignored, the engine can seize. The hose is replaced and the hybrid computer reprogrammed free of charge; Renault says it will refuse later compensation if the work is not done. Italian and Spanish press reported fuel dilution of the oil from a weak vapour tube, updated on 2025 cars. French owner reviews of the E-Tech 200 report oil consumption and engine failures.

Engine vibration when the petrol engine starts, loss of power, "injection to check" or other warnings

Details

L'argus lists an April 2024 recall of 21,234 Austral E-Tech 200 built until 6 February 2024 for engine vibration, power loss and error messages, fixed by new spark plugs, plus several software updates for power loss and injection warnings in 2023-2024. Injection warnings are the most reported fault in French owner reviews of the E-Tech 200 (12 of 88).

Detection

"Risk of gearbox damage" warning, jerky or slow gear changes

Details

The DB1 multimode hybrid gearbox of the 200 hp full hybrid has had actuator replacements and software updates for a "risk of gearbox damage" warning (L'argus). Gearbox faults are the second most reported item in French owner reviews of the E-Tech 200 (11 of 88). Mild-hybrid and Eco-G versions use a conventional gearbox.

Cooling-circuit faults: electric water pump and charge-air cooler leak

N/A–N/A N/A–N/A
View details ▸
Detection

"Risk of engine damage" warning, coolant level falling in the low-temperature expansion tank, "injection to check" message

Details

On the 1.2 E-Tech 200 (Renault code H5F): the electric water pump can fail on engines built up to 30 June 2023 (improved from 19 June 2023; fault code P26CAF5), and the air/water charge-air cooler can leak coolant on cars built up to 31 December 2023. Both parts are replaced. Cost not sourced.

Greece Note

Summer heat and stop-start traffic load the cooling circuit; watch the coolant level. No Greek-specific data found.
