D5204T (D5204T2/T3/T4/T5/T6/T7)
"Volvo's 2.0 five-cylinder diesel, a short-stroke version of the 2.4 D5, sold as D3 and D4 (136-177 hp) in the C30, S40, V50, C70, V40, S60, V60, S80, V70 and XC60 from 2010 until the four-cylinder VEA took over in 2014-2015. Smooth and torquey. Watch the auxiliary-belt tensioner (a failed belt can take out the timing belt), the timing belt at 180,000 km or 10 years, and coolant loss: mechanics report cracked blocks and head gaskets on some engines."
Volvo modular I5 petrol (B5244S, B5204T, B5234T, B5244T, B5254T; Ford HYDA/HYDB/HUBA/JZDA)
"Volvo's modular five-cylinder petrol: the 2.4 and the 2.0T/2.4T/2.5T/T5/R in Volvos, and the 2.5 turbo in the Ford Focus ST and RS, Mondeo and Kuga. Long-lived - 280,000-400,000 km with care. Check the crankcase breather (the oil filter housing diaphragm on 2004-on engines), the interference cambelt, the variable valve timing units and, on early Focus ST and tuned cars, cracked cylinder liners."
