U 1.1 CRDi (D3FA) vs G6BA 2.7 V6
Side-by-side reliability comparison
Specifications
Character
U 1.1 CRDi (D3FA)
"Three-cylinder 1.1 CRDi diesel (2005-2019) from the Hyundai/Kia U family, used in the Kia Picanto, Hyundai i10 and i20 and Kia Rio. 75 hp, Bosch common rail, very low fuel use. No widespread serious fault is documented; the main costs come from soot clogging the EGR valve and intake swirl flaps in town driving, and early engines can push oil into the intake through the crankcase breather. Owners report 290,000 km and more. Evidence is limited, so the score is capped."
G6BA 2.7 V6
"Simple naturally aspirated 2.7 V6 of the first Tucson, Sportage and Santa Fe. German guides call it basically reliable and US examples have passed 400,000 km. The one thing that matters is the timing belt: it is an interference engine, the hydraulic tensioner can wreck the belt early, and a broken belt bends the valves. Change belt, tensioner and pulleys on time (every 60,000-90,000 km) and check the crankshaft pulley. Very thirsty, especially with AWD."
