Side-by-side reliability comparison

Character
2.2 TDCi Duratorq Puma (ZSD-422)
"Ford's own 2.2 diesel with a timing chain, used in the Transit and Transit Custom, the Ranger T6, the Mondeo Mk3 2.2 TDCi and the Peugeot Boxer / Citroen Jumper. Tough and simple, but 2006-2010 engines had troublesome Delphi injectors, the Ranger's variable oil pump and EGR cooler can wreck the engine if ignored, and the DPF dilutes the oil on short runs. Check the coolant level and service history."
EcoBoost 1.0 (post-2018)
"The revised 1.0 three-cylinder in the Fiesta Mk8, Focus Mk4 and Puma (cylinder deactivation, mild hybrid from 2020). Most got a timing chain between 2018 and 2020, but some engine codes kept the wet timing belt and every version still drives the oil pump with a belt running in oil. Use only the Ford-approved oil and keep the change interval; check the engine code before buying."
