FireFly 1.0 Hybrid (N3 BSG) vs 2.3 JTD/MJT
Side-by-side reliability comparison
Specifications
Character
FireFly 1.0 Hybrid (N3 BSG)
"Naturally aspirated 6-valve FireFly three-cylinder with a timing chain and a 12 V belt starter-generator (BSG) mild-hybrid system, used in the Fiat Panda, Fiat 500 and Lancia Ypsilon Hybrid. Mechanically simple and so far robust; the known faults are in the hybrid electrics - a weak 12 V or auxiliary battery switches off the hybrid and stop-start functions. Too young for long-term mileage evidence."
2.3 JTD/MJT
"Fiat/FPT 2.3 MultiJet diesel in the Ducato van and camper base (120-180 hp), replaced by the 2.2 MultiJet3 in 2021. A hard-working engine with the usual diesel wear items: EGR fouling from 80-120k km, leaking injector seals from 100-150k km and turbos on Euro 5 vans from about 150k km. It has a timing belt, not a chain - change it on time, including on campers that sit for months."
