Character

FireFly 1.0 Hybrid (N3 BSG)

"Naturally aspirated 6-valve FireFly three-cylinder with a timing chain and a 12 V belt starter-generator (BSG) mild-hybrid system, used in the Fiat Panda, Fiat 500 and Lancia Ypsilon Hybrid. Mechanically simple and so far robust; the known faults are in the hybrid electrics - a weak 12 V or auxiliary battery switches off the hybrid and stop-start functions. Too young for long-term mileage evidence."

1.4 MultiAir Turbo

"Fiat's 1.4 MultiAir turbo petrol (Alfa Romeo MiTo and Giulietta, Fiat Punto, 500L and 500X, Jeep Renegade and Compass). Lively and economical; the electro-hydraulic MultiAir valve unit is its known weak point, and older engines can burn oil. Clean oil of the right specification and on-time changes matter more than usual."
