D5204T (D5204T2/T3/T4/T5/T6/T7)
"Volvo's 2.0 five-cylinder diesel, a short-stroke version of the 2.4 D5, sold as D3 and D4 (136-177 hp) in the C30, S40, V50, C70, V40, S60, V60, S80, V70 and XC60 from 2010 until the four-cylinder VEA took over in 2014-2015. Smooth and torquey. Watch the auxiliary-belt tensioner (a failed belt can take out the timing belt), the timing belt at 180,000 km or 10 years, and coolant loss: mechanics report cracked blocks and head gaskets on some engines."
B6294T
"Volvo's first-generation 2.9 twin-turbo straight-six with dual variable valve timing, used in the S80 T6 (2001-2006) and the XC90 T6 (2002-2006), 272 hp. The timing belt is the item that matters: if it breaks the valves hit the pistons, and specialist guides say it often does not last to its 100,000 km interval, so change it early. Check both turbos for smoke and oil in the charge pipes. Most T6 complaints are about the 4-speed automatic gearbox, not the engine."
