M15A-FKS vs 3ZZ/4ZZ
Side-by-side reliability comparison
Specifications
Character
M15A-FKS
"The non-hybrid 1.5 three-cylinder petrol in the Yaris (XP210) and Yaris Cross: no turbo, direct injection, chain-driven, 120-125 hp. Too new for much used-car data; German guides say little is known yet. The weak point named so far is the water-cooled EGR cooler, which can crack and let coolant into the cylinders. Watch the coolant level and look for white smoke."
3ZZ/4ZZ
"Corolla E120 1.4 (4ZZ-FE) and 1.6 (3ZZ-FE), also the facelifted Corolla E110, Corolla Verso, Avensis and early Auris. Simple chain-driven 16V with VVT-i. The known weakness is oil consumption from faulty piston rings on some engines, up to about 1 litre per 1,000 km: check the oil level often, because burning oil also damages the catalytic converter. Otherwise very few engine faults are reported."
